Do you Harlem Shake?

Happy weekend all!

I am sure you all have heard of this dance craze...at first I thought it was silly but after seeing a couple videos I could not stop laughing at the funny and ridiculous moves and costumes.  Plus, the tune does make me want to shake my booty!

I did a little research this weekend on the dance and where it all started.  Harlem Shake is a dance that originally began in Harlem, New York in 1981.  Originally called the "albee" because a harlem resident by the name of "Al B" created the dance and then later to be called Harlem Shake as it's prominence grew through out the neighborhood.  The dance became mainstream in 2001 when artist G. Dep featured the dance in his music video "Let's Get It".

The Harlem Shake meme is in the form of a video of various groups performing short comedy sketches accompanied by a quick remixed version of the Harlem Shake by Baauer.  It all started when a group of teenagers from Queensland, Australia uploaded an hilarious video on Youtube and then people went crazy and started uploading versions of their own.  The videos typically last between 30-40 seconds and features part of the song "Harlem Shake" by electronic musician Baauer.  The videos usually start with one person often helmeted or masked dancing alone for the first 15 seconds while the other participants are sitting and unaware of the person dancing. Then the bass drops and the rest of the people start dancing and going crazy!   It's quite funny to watch in my opinion.

My hubby thought it would be funny to make a version of our own.  It was so fun and even our dog Chloe got down with us ;-)

Hope you all get a good laugh out of it.  We are still laughing....

xoxo Dinah

  2. I had no idea what this was for the longest time. However, I enjoy everyone's versions because it's more targeted!
